In 1998, Reverend Reggie Longcrier, a respected community leader, prison chaplain, and pastor, founded Exodus Homes. Recognizing the pressing need for supportive housing and comprehensive services for those facing addiction, homelessness, and reentry challenges, Rev. Longcrier established the organization to provide a structured and nurturing environment for individuals seeking transformation. Longcrier's contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Governor's Award for Volunteer Service, the Hickory Spirit of Martin Luther King Award, and the Key to the City of Hickory. In 2017, the city proclaimed October 18 as "Reverend Reggie Longcrier Day" in his honor. Today, Rev. Longcrier continues to inspire through public speaking engagements, mentorship, and his unwavering dedication to social justice and community empowerment. His life stands as a powerful testament to the possibility of transformation and the enduring impact of faith and compassion. Early on, Rev. Susan Smith joined him in this mission, bringing her leadership and relentless dedication to expanding services, advocating for justice, and ensuring that those society often forgets were given a real chance.
