In 1997, Reverend Reggie Longcrier, a respected community leader, prison chaplain, and pastor, founded Exodus Homes. Recognizing the pressing need for supportive housing and comprehensive services for those facing addiction, homelessness, and reentry challenges, Rev. Longcrier established the organization to provide a structured and nurturing environment for individuals seeking transformation.

Longcrier’s contributions have earned him numerous accolades, such as the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service, the Hickory Spirit of Martin Luther King Award, and the Key to the City of Hickory. In 2017, the city proclaimed October 18 as “Reverend Reggie Longcrier Day” in his honor.

Today, Rev. Longcrier continues to inspire through public speaking engagements, mentorship, and his unwavering dedication to social justice and community empowerment. His life stands as a powerful testament to the possibility of transformation and the enduring impact of faith and compassion.

Early on, Rev. Susan Smith joined him in this mission, bringing her leadership and relentless dedication to expanding services, advocating for justice, and ensuring that those society often forgets were given a real chance.

recovery support Hickory NCWHY WE EXIST

Every year, men and women leave prison, treatment centers, and the streets determined to start over. Many are committed to rebuilding their lives, but they face overwhelming barriers. Without safe housing, transportation, job opportunities, and a supportive community, too many fall back into the same cycles that brought them there in the first place.

Exodus Homes exists to break that cycle.

Since 1998, our mission has been to provide safe housing, structure, and opportunity for individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, addiction, and homelessness. We believe that real change happens when people are given both accountability and support.

Exodus Homes Recovery SupportAt Exodus Homes, residents find more than a place to stay. They gain access to vocational training through Exodus Works, life-skills development, employment opportunities, recovery support, and a community that believes in second chances.

The impact reaches far beyond the individual. When people stabilize, find employment, and reunite with their families, our entire community becomes stronger and safer. By reducing recidivism and helping individuals achieve long-term recovery and independence, Exodus Homes is transforming lives—one person, one family, and one future at a time. We exist because change is possible—and no one should have to do it alone.
